Bonaventure Cemetery
Savannah, Georgia
Almost certainly Bonaventure is the most beautiful cemetery in the United States with its remarkable statuary, bright pink azalea bushes and Spanish moss draped live oaks. It has become one of Savannah's most visited sites since the publication of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", which featured, on it's cover, a Bird Girl statue that formerly stood in the cemetery. The Bird Girl now resides in a local museum to protect it, but it hardly matters since the cemetery itself is what was worth seeing in the first place. Bonaventure is also the resting place for several famous graves including Johnny Mercer, the songwriter of Moonriver, Autumn Leaves, That Old Black Magic and many, many others. A photo of his grave is included in this collection.
